Melanotan II is a synthetic cyclic analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) and a non-selective melanocortin-receptor agonist.
Mechanism of action. In research models, Melanotan II activates melanocortin receptors including MC1R, studied for its role in melanogenesis (melanin synthesis), and MC4R, studied in central pathways related to appetite and sexual-function signaling.
Research applications. Used in pigmentation, melanocortin-receptor, and neuroendocrine research models.
