Tirzepatide
Tirzepatide is a synthetic dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist (CAS 2023788-19-1), a 39–amino-acid peptide modified with a C20 fatty-diacid side chain that extends its stability profile. It belongs to the incretin-mimetic class of research compounds.
Mechanism of action. In laboratory models, tirzepatide is studied as a single-molecule co-agonist that simultaneously engages the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptors. Research focuses on the convergent intracellular signaling of these incretin pathways and their downstream influence on glucose-dependent insulin secretion, satiety signaling, and energy-balance models.
Research applications. Tirzepatide is widely used as a reference agonist in metabolic and receptor-pharmacology studies, including comparative work against single GLP-1 agonists. Published Phase 3 clinical research (the SURMOUNT program) reported pronounced reductions in body weight among study subjects.
